John, the beloved disciple, teaches us what it means to find our true identity in Christ. John stands out as one who humbly called himself only “the one whom Jesus loved.” From his writings, we see his deep intimacy with Jesus, his trust in the promises of eternal life, and his reliance on Christ even through trials and exile. His life reminds us that our greatest security is resting in the arms of our Savior, who prepares a place for us and calls us to fear nothing when our faith is fully in Him.
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going. – John 14:1-4 (ESV)
