Genesis 37
Joseph’s story begins with dreams and promise, but it quickly becomes a story of jealousy, betrayal, and deep hurt. His own brothers hated him, stripped him of his robe, threw him into a pit, and sold him into slavery. Joseph was carried into Egypt while his father was left believing his son was dead.
The wounds Joseph received were not caused by strangers. They came from his own family. Yet this painful chapter was not the end of Joseph’s story.
As Joseph’s life unfolds, we see God at work even through circumstances Joseph never would have chosen. His story reminds us that forgiveness does not pretend the hurt never happened. Instead, forgiveness releases our hurt into the hands of a God who sees the entire story.
When we have been wounded, betrayed, or disappointed, bitterness can keep us connected to the pain. God calls us to something different. Through His grace, we can choose forgiveness and trust Him with what has happened to us.
Joseph’s story begins in a pit, but it does not end there. Neither does ours.
