Zechariah 3 gives a vivid picture of mercy, rescue, and redemption. Joshua the high priest stands before the Lord in filthy garments while Satan accuses him, but God responds with rebuke and grace: “Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?” This is the story of every believer. Left to ourselves, we stood under judgment, stained by sin, and unable to cleanse our own lives. But God, through His mercy, snatches us from destruction, removes our iniquity, and clothes us in righteousness.
This message is a sober reminder that hell is real, judgment is real, and sin carries eternal consequences. But it is also a message of hope, because Christ rescues those who could never save themselves. The same God who rebuked the adversary over Joshua still delivers sinners today. We are not left in the fire, not left in filthy garments, and not left to the accusations of Satan. In Christ, we are forgiven, made clean, and brought into the family of God.
