The Right Mixture: God’s Rest
Hebrews 4:1-13
Hebrews 4 reminds us that God’s promise of rest still stands. This rest is not simply physical rest, an easier schedule, or relief from every burden. It is the deep spiritual rest that comes from trusting God completely.
Israel heard the good news, but the message did not benefit them because it was not united with faith. They heard God’s promise, but unbelief kept them from entering the rest God had prepared. The same warning remains for us today. Hearing the Word of God is not enough. God’s Word must be received with genuine faith.
From creation onward, God’s rest has always been connected to His finished work. We do not earn rest by striving in our own strength. We enter God’s rest by trusting what He has done and believing His promises.
Hebrews also reminds us that God’s invitation is still “Today.” The opportunity to respond to His voice is open now, but it should not be delayed or presumed upon. God’s Word is living and active, exposing the true condition of our hearts so that we may respond to Him in faith.
True rest is not found in perfect circumstances. True rest is found in confidence in God’s promises.
